I'm back in Basel now, trying to get started on the sequel to
TYRELL -- finally! Getting started is not easy. Also, I'm having a harder time than normal adjusting to Swiss time, a six-hour difference. So I'm exhausted all day and wide awake all night.
Getting started on a sequel is hard -- as a matter of fact, I don't know where to begin. So I figured I'd try to read some successful sequels to see how other authors did it. Right now I'm reading
THE OFF SEASON by Catherine Gilbert Murdock. I loved
DAIRY QUEEN, and I'm hoping the sequel will be just as good.
In other news, a writer friend recently told me about a problem with her book that was
supposed to be coming out in the fall, but through no fault of her own, is now postponed for a YEAR. Every time I hear about things like this, I still can't believe it can happen, but maybe I'm just naive and think there should be fairness. I know, silly me, right? You can read about it
here, on my other blog THE LONGSTOCKINGS.
Then, because you'll need a laugh afterwards, check
this out. It's from NPR's StoryCorps, which, if you don't already listen to, you must start. They are great stories from real people -- and always worth listening to. (This particular story is hilarious -- it cracked me up!)
Enjoy.
